B J's Lounge
About This Spot
B J’s Lounge is the kind of neighborhood bar where the pace slows just enough to let you settle in comfortably, as if you’ve found a familiar spot away from the city’s bustle. Tucked away on Burgundy Street in New Orleans, it offers a laid-back refuge with a lived-in warmth that invites both longtime locals and chance visitors to soak in the simple joy of an unpretentious night out.
When you walk through the door, you’re met with a mellow hum of conversation and the steady pulse of live music — a soundtrack that shifts with the night, often featuring local bands that bring character and a true sense of place. The atmosphere feels easy and genuine, punctuated by familiar faces and the soft clink of glasses that hint at good company rather than grand gestures. It’s a haven where the music isn’t just heard, but felt, and where the vibe leans toward relaxed rather than raucous.
Drinks here pair effortlessly with the unhurried rhythm, from classic pours like a Double Wide Highlife to unexpected twists like a Birthday Cake shot or an ice-cold Jägermeister. Even the occasional food offerings, such as the infamous Hot Dog Buffet or the indulgent King Cake slices, blend seamlessly into the scene — comforting, unassuming, and entirely fitting for a night spent unwinding with friends or making new ones.
There’s an undeniably local spirit to B J’s Lounge. It doesn't try to be flashy or trendy; instead, it offers grounded authenticity, like stepping into a room where everyone’s happy to slow down and appreciate the small, meaningful moments. Whether you’re catching a Sunday night show or dropping in early on a quiet Saturday, the space holds a unique charm — steady, welcoming, and a little timeless.
This is the type of place where you find your favorite corner and return time and again, not because it promises extraordinary luxuries, but because it feels like a true extension of the neighborhood itself. In many ways, B J’s Lounge embodies the heart of local gatherings: honest, unpolished, and warmly familiar.

Loved the atmosphere of this neighborhood bar. Stopped in for a random Sunday night show and was very impressed.

Update: The chair still lives! Also I'm an idiot and it's spelled 'Vaughans'! I'm hesitant to rate this place because I like it so much, and I want it to stay local. I've been coming here for years since a friend introduced us. It's changed slightly (RIP barbers chair and old jukebox) but I still love to visit everytime I'm in NOLA. Nothing special about it other than it's a neighborhood bar with strong drinks and lively clientele. I spent 12 hours drinking long islands and eating suspect crawfish, and the next 2 days sick as a dog and would do it over again. I've literally come here unannounced from out of town and randomly met local friends, it's that awesome. So if youre in the area, Vaughn's is nearby as well, check it out. Just 'dont ruin the bar dude'.

Great spot, chilled vibe. We were there early-idh on a Saturday so was very quiet.

Always a good time. Come for a drink and stay for the music. So many great local bands can be seen here. There was an incredible dumpling food cart out front last time

Dive bar with a very diverse crowd, appears frequented by mostly locals but a good amount of visitors like myself but both are welcomed alike. Energy is lively and seems elevated beyond any “typical” dive. Seeing Little Freddie King has been on my bucket list since Queen & Slim, and missing Jazz Fest last year when it got canceled. The stage here is awesome and intimate. Definitely coming back.

I went for an Open Mic night on a Tuesday and I really enjoyed it. A lot of very talented people in that part of town. They had a cash only bar. Will definitely go back.
